Preparing the site for the heater:

I. OPTION

Tool: Shovel, spirit level

  1. Choose a flat area outside the chicken coop in the hen run, preferably as far downwind as possible.
  2. Dig a hole with dimensions: L: 6.29″ x W: 6.29″ H: 6.37″.
  3. Then, place the heater into the hole. Ensure that the hole is both deep and wide enough. Then, insert the legs into the bottom of the hole, ensuring that the corners/ears of the black container are fully visible.
  4. To prepare the soil, gently press it around the container and lightly tap it.
  5. Place a spirit level on the cover to ensure that the surface where the water container will be placed is flat and parallel to the ground.

II. OPTION

Tool: Spirit level
Material: cinder blocks or bricks

  1. Choose a flat area outside the chicken coop in the hen run, preferably as far downwind as possible.
  2. Insert the container’s legs into the soil.
  3. Line the container with bricks on all sides so that the heater is stable, and the hens can access the waterer that will be placed on the heater.
  4. Place a spirit level on the cover to ensure that the surface where the water container will be placed is flat and parallel to the ground.

 

Heater usage instructions:

Accessories: paper towel, cloth, lighter, water container (1-5 gallons) made of high-temperature-resistant material (metal or plastic). It is recommended that the container has a flat bottom

  1. Unscrew the safety cap from the cartridge.
  2. Always check that the burner nozzle is clean before lighting, if not, wipe it with a paper towel.
  3. Swich on the wick. Do not pull the wick out of the nozzle.
  4. Place the red aluminium cover on top of the container.
  5. Ensure that the flame is still burning through the hole in the cover.
  6. Wipe the cover with cloth and the undersurface of the waterer dry before placing the waterer on the top.
  7. Place the waterer (1-5 gallons) on top of the heater cover.

*Do not touch the upper heating surface on the cover of the heater when the flame is lit and it is running. Only remove cover by grasping the sides with both hands.
*Do not dispose safety cap as it is still required when the cartridge is not in use and temperatures are above 46,4°F (8°C).
*Dispose of the paper towel after cleaning the burner nozzle.
*It is recommended to place 1-2 table tennis balls in the waterer to protect the surface from freezing.

 

Refilling the cartridge:

The cartridge contains approximately 0.36 gallons (1.4L) of liquid wax, which is enough for a burn time of 14 days. The bottle is reusable because of its removable thread. The lamp can be refilled with clear paraffin candle oil when it is empty.

Accessories for refilling: Clear paraffin lamp oil, Old newsprint is used as the base, Cloth, funnel, Liquid measuring container.

Recommended paraffin candle Oils:

  • Firefly’s Simply Pure Paraffin Lamp Oil or NER CANDLES’ Paraffin Lamp Oil

Subject to any instructions provided by the manufacturer, both products are available at your local hardware store. Clear follow all manufacturer instructions to ensure safety and for best results.

To refill the cartridge, follow the steps:

  1. Lay the newsprint on a flat surface.
  2. Remove the waterer from the heater.
  3. Remove the red aluminum cover
  4. Ensure that the candle flame is extinguished before removing the cartridge from the black aluminum container.
  5. Place the cartridge  on the flat surface lined with newsprint that you prepared in step 1.
  6. Pour approximately 0.36 gallons (1.4 L) of liquid, clear paraffin candle oil into the measuring cup.
  7. To prepare the cartridge, wipe the fuel nozzle with a cloth and unscrew the threads. Then, place the wick stopper on the newspaper base. DO NOT REMOVE THE WICK FROM THE SPOUT!
  8. Next, insert a funnel into the tank’s neck and pour the paraffin oil from the measuring cup.
  9. After removing the funnel, wipe it clean and place it on a surface.
  10. Reattach the threaded wick to the neck of the cartridge’s tank.
  11. After wiping the top surface of the fuel nozzle, insert the cartridge back into the black aluminum container, light it, and cover it with the red aluminum cover
  12. Dispose of the cloth and newsprint used as a base. Put away any other utensils.

  2. Before servicing the candle or heater, make sure to extinguish the flame.
  3. Be careful not to damage the container with the candle oil while preparing a hole in the ground to place it properly.

WARNING: Do not place any materials that are not heat-resistant on, in or near the heater!

WARNING: Do not use the heater when the temperature is above 46,4°F (8°C)!

WARNING: During installation, use, and storage of the oil lamp, keep it out of reach of children.

WARNING: Even a small amount of lamp oil or sucking the lamp wick can cause severe lung damage in young children.

WARNING: If lamp oil is ingested, DO NOT induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention or contact the POISON CONTROL CENTER and display these warnings!

DANGER:

  • (H304) May be fatal if swallowed and enters the respiratory tract.
  • (EUH066) Repeated exposure may cause dry and cracked skin.
  • Keep locked. Dispose of contents/container at an authorised waste collector.

Storage:

If temperatures exceed the recommended level and the heater is not in use, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the cartridge from the container,
  2. Clean the burner on the cartridge, close it tightly with a safety cap.
  3. Insert it back into the heater container.
  4. Move the heater, along with the cartridge, to a dry and safe place out of reach of children!
